Hand-carved earthen-ware bowls and plates
As a life-long artist and scientist, I find that clay and glazes create a complimentary medium through which beauty is created while utilizing
both right and left brain.
While growing up in Eastern Pennsylvania, I was drawn to the simple designs and celebration of nature found in the
Pennsylvania German folk art tradition. I seek to continue this tradition of decorating simple forms with natural designs and motifs.
As Pennsylvania German potters once did, I often find particular motifs in
fraktur, another form of Pennsylvania German folk art.
The name "Crow Hill" comes both from the name of a special hill where I grew up where my father is presently a potter, and
from my long time connection to corvids.
As an artist, it is my desire is create from the good earth something that adds beauty, delight and celebration to everyday life!
In addition to operating Crow Hill Pottery, I am an associate of Oakleaf Pottery,
which is owned and operated by Roy Yoder (my father) - a Berks County Pennsylvania potter.
